Haines is situated at the northern end of the majestic Lynn
Canal Fiord, one of the top cruise ship destinations in the world. Many spectacular
day-trips can be taken out of Haines, making it a prized destination for the independent
traveler. Haines is the gateway to the largest group of international wilderness parks in
the world and the famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. The culturally rich and expansive
Tlingit Nation was centered here and the Gold Rush era saw the construction of Fort
William H. Seward, now a National Historic Landmark. Haines is known for its cultural
facilities, arts and crafts production, and friendly people and accommodations.
